- Last Thursday evening the officers and teachers of the Sunday school and a few invited friends gathered at the residence of H. J. Sheffield, one of the assistant superintendents of the school, and gave him a genuine surprise. Some of his friends kept him uptown until about 7 p.m., and during his absence the guests arrived, bringing their picnic and arranging for the party. When Mr. Sheffield returned home and found his friends in possession of his house, a more surprised man it would have been hard to find. The first part of the evening was taken up with games and social chat until about 10 p. m., when Superintendent Linford called the Assembly to order and in a neat speech presented Mr. Sheffield, on behalf of the officers and teachers of the school, with a very handsome Book of Mormon. Mr. Sheffield in a feeling speech thanked the Assembly for their kindness to him; after which singing, games, etc, were indulged until about 1 a.m., when they all departed for home, having spent a very nice evening together.
- The case of Sidney Stevens vs. H. E. Williams wherein the plaintiff sues for about $300, balance due on a header, was held before Justice Hyde at Layton on the 6th, the jury bringing in a verdict for the defendant.
- Last evening the social and literary club enjoyed themselves with a sleighride and also held a short meeting where a very interesting programme was rendered.
